For those wanting to fish now: The Red River in New Mexico is a great option right now. There are plenty of resident fiesty Browns in the river and the some of the larger Cutbows of the Rio Grande have moved into the river to winter and are there to be caught. You must go down deeper with nypth rigs but we managed to land a few and get schooled by a few others last week. The Rio Grande from Pilar up thru John Dunn bridge is fishing well for Pike. Large streamers and heavier rods are the ticket. The San Juan in New Mexico is also fishing really well for winter. Egg patterns, Chironocones, Jujue Midges, chamois leeches, streamers real early and late, and a host of other midge patterns are fishing well. All of these rivers are close to the Conejos and are handy for many of us here in Southern Colorado. Wear some fleece and enjoy some great winter fishing!!! Good Luck!
