Report:
Well for those of you that have not been able to come up yet&
The dry fly action is hot. Well maybe not that hot, all the time, but with the current
12:30 to 2:15 Green Drake hatch 12s to 10s and the great rains we have had, like I said
before its only going to get better.
Pigs and more pigs fat short long brown, cut, cutbow all hitting it hard some jumping out to hit the fly before the fly landed on the water.
- lots of fun a couple of really big ones
- taking my fly (6X out 4-5X in)
- ripping the line 50+ feet and then dead sticking my line in swift currents
We are starting to see other smaller hatches which should lead to the larger ( Yellow Sallys, Blue Duns, Pale Mornings, Red Quills, Blue wing Olive, etc. moving to 14s and 12s). Drake hatch should stay around for a week and then move up.
With the flows up and down and up again the river seems to be sporadic or more consistent compared to the last couple of years. Stone hatch lasted for almost 4 weeks and we were able to catch a few trout on the Royal Stimulator. (4 weeks includes moving up river.)
Flows are coming down after the week of rain and the next two weeks could get into Prime Dry Fly time. The morning flow rate at Mogote was 539 this evening 460 down from yesterday mornings near 600. Current Platoro 291 this morning 320.
(for those that want flow reports on the entire area go here) http://www.dwr.state.co.us/Hydrology/flow_list_current.asp?DIV=3
Check in with the guys at Fox Creek Store, because I would have missed todays hatch if Randy had not told me what was going on.
And no I do not work for Fox Creek Store they are just good people - well I get a few free flies now and then...
I just think if your going to pick someones brain give 'em some of the credit.
